Hey Reader Summer road trips are here, and they are the unofficial love language of the season.☀️ Whether you’re solo cruising to your favorite small-town coffee shop or road tripping with your dog riding shotgun, there’s one thing that makes every drive smoother: being prepared. Here are three must-haves I always keep in my trunk—and you absolutely should too: 1. Jumper CablesA dead battery can turn your dreamy road trip into a total buzzkill real fast. Jumper cables are a must—not fancy, but completely functional. They can also be a great way to help someone else on the road. I’ve had strangers at a gas station borrow mine after their car wouldn’t start back up—and it turned into one of those “make a friend by being a friend” moments. Bonus: unlike a portable jump starter, jumper cables don’t need to be charged. Just make sure you (or someone nearby) knows how to use them safely. 2. Roadside Assistance KitThis is your "just-in-case" MVP. A solid kit includes things like a flashlight, reflective triangle, basic tools, and gloves. Some even come with a tire pressure gauge and zippered pouch so everything stays tidy. If you ever find yourself pulled over on the shoulder (ugh), this little kit can make a huge difference in how safe and prepared you feel. 🛣️ The goal: never need it. But if you do? You’ll be so glad it’s there. 3. First Aid KitFrom bug bites to mystery scrapes (seriously, how do those even happen?), a stocked first aid kit is one of those “grown-up” things you’ll be so glad you have. I keep mine in the trunk, but make sure it’s easy to grab when needed—like in a clearly labeled pouch. Add a few personal touches, too: allergy meds, mini Advil, motion sickness tablets—whatever helps you feel road-ready and cared for. 4. BONUS TIP: Wear Closed-Toe ShoesThis is one of those "learned the hard way" tips, so… story time. One day, my boyfriend and I were visiting my mom in East Texas. I decided to wear flip flops—because we were just driving straight to her house and heading back to Dallas that evening. I always wear my tennis shoes, but it was summertime hot, I was feeling lazy, and flip flops felt like the move. Well. On the way back, as we’re merging onto I-30, we witness a T-bone accident happen right in front of us on the service road. We immediately pulled over, called 911, and ran to help the people involved. Everyone was thankfully okay, and the ambulance came to take one of the drivers to the hospital. But here’s the part I didn’t think through: I’m sprinting back and forth through grass up to my knees… in MOTHER FREAKING FLIP FLOPS. Never. Again. So take it from me—even if it feels unnecessary or “extra” for a simple drive, wear closed-toe shoes. It’s always the safer bet when things don’t go according to plan. ConclusionSo whether you're headed out for a girls' weekend, visiting family, or just chasing the good snacks and good playlists, make sure your car is stocked, your shoes are sensible, and your peace of mind is packed. 💬 I’d love to know—are you going on any road trips this summer? Omg Reader, can you believe it’s already back-to-school season?! Where did summer even go? If you’re a teacher gearing up for another school year—bless you. I’m wishing you luck, patience, and a ton of self-control. (If you know, you know. 😂) You truly are the unsung heroes. This edition of the newsletter is inspired by a friend of mine who’s about to send her kiddo off to college (cue the emotional support snacks), and it got me thinking: There are a few simple ways anyone can add...
